Take A Word - Leisure

These images are for the blog challenge Take A Word.  Marie asked if I would be interested in making a Sample Image for this weeks challenge.  The word is leisure so first I made the top image - since I live close to the ocean leisure for me is a day at the beach. After I finished this one I thought maybe something vintage would be more appropriate.  I then made the bottom image - Tennis At The Club. 

The top image is a photo I took at Bay Head NJ.  I extracted the chairs, ball, pail, gull, boat and girl from other photos. I combined them all and added some textures.  The bottom image I extracted the girls and placed them on the castle image I added a few other elements and some textures and grunge brushes.

I think both speak of leisure.

The Story

I made this image for the Three Muses blog challenge - turquoise and lime green.  I actually made this image some time ago on my old laptop but reworked it on my Mac.  It is amazing the difference between the color on my new Mac and the old laptop.  My iMac is the best thing I ever bought and I love it. All elements from my collection.  I extracted the girl and placed her on a made up BG - added  flowers, trees, text and textures. I also recolored areas - to get my lime green and turquoise coloring.

Wheelie Girl

The challenge this week is to create an image in the style of SHERRY PARKER

So here is how I made this image.  

I started with this image of an insect from the internet.  I wanted this shape and the legs and thought it would be OK to use it because I am going to completely change it.  I played around with it using filters until I got a look I liked. 

Next I added a head and some wings to start my figure.  I also added a texture.

Next I decided I wanted my image to have real arms.  I extracted both of the arms from a figure  and fitted them onto my bug body.  I also added the golden rule image for some interest.

So my next move was to make an abstract shaped body - I wanted to keep the insect legs.  I used my shape tool and started drawing overlapping shapes in different colors.  I masked out to make the shapes conform to my insect body.

Satisfied with my progress so far I started putting little accents on the insect/figure.  I removed the insect parts on the right legs and filled them in. I noticed Parker used patterns so I added a pattern floor. A added another texture over the whole image - multiply 75% opacity and signed my name. 

There are 30 layers but the shapes and accent elements are all on separate layers.  This was a fun challenge.  So different from my work but I learned a lot and will probably make more of these “Parker-like” images.

I have made a few more of these and a few just the silhouette (hope I spelled it right).  These were fun to do and different for me.  I had to resist the urge to mask out the print on the girl's face above!

Playing around with a more painterly look - I get bored easily. Always trying to bridge the gap between painting and digital. I'll get there eventually. I wanted a very watercolor look to this image - lots of drips and spatter and of course lots of color. I do get bored with some of my digital work - I do not like the photo look - I want a more artistic feel - lots to learn but lots of fun.

I made this image for the Three Muses blog challenge - transportation.  The woman and car were extracted from a vintage photo.  The BG is from my collection and the two women on the side of the car are my mother and grandmother extracted from a photo.  I added a few textures and filters and threw in some birds.

Music For No One

Another challenge but a bit different.   I got an e-mail from Marie (Ozstuff) about blog challenges - so I thought I might give it a try.  This is for Take A Word and this weeks word is Music.

My idea was a girl all alone playing her music for no one.  But along comes a little birdy to listen and this gives her hope. I know my digital work is quite different but this sounded like a fun challenge to start.
